If you’re in the market for a new Nintendo handheld dual screened gaming system, there is really only one choice—the New Nintendo 3DS. This is not to be confused with the Nintendo 3DS. Yes, the New Nintendo 3DS.

As you might expect, the New Nintendo 3DS is just a better version of the Nintendo 3DS. It has a faster CPU, more memory and enhanced 3D visual effects. It’s only $25 dollars more and it does make a difference. The extra computer power is noticeable. The system runs much faster, smoother and easier.

So why would you buy the other Nintendo handheld models like the 2DS, 3DS or 3DS XL? Actually, I don’t know. But here are the differences: first of all, the other models are less expensive. Particularly, it is possible to buy the 2DS for half the price of the New 3DS. But the 2DS doesn’t have the capabilities that the 3DS or New 3DS has, it’s cumbersome to hold and has a lot less games available to play. Lastly, the 3DS XL is just slightly bigger than the 3DS.

There are only two games currently on the market that you can only play on the New Nintendo 3DS: Fire Emblem Awakening and Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies. But with more games on the way and 3DS games far outnumbering 2DS games, the New Nintendo 3DS is the smart buy. There are new Zelda and Mario games in the works. They are also re-releasing classic GameBoy from Pokemon and Final Fantasy series. With the New 3DS, you have access to a humongous library of games old and new.

The New Nintendo 3DS also has the curious feature of StreetPass. This allows your 3DS to communicate with other 3DS games in close proximity while it’s sleeping. It shares information and data that is of your choice. Particularly, the strangers’ 3DS handheld game consoles share Miis. These strangers’ Mii avatars will pop up on your 3DS to participate with you in different games and challenges.

Whether you’re in it to play classic Mario games, new innovative 3D games or pick up strangers’ avatars, the New Nintendo 3DS is the clear winner for only $25 more than 3DS. Not so surprisingly, it has arrived just in time for the holiday season.
